about jacquese

Jacquese Groves is a children’s book author who is passionate about writing stories that feature children of color as the lead characters having normal child-like experiences. Long concerned about the lack of diversity in children’s books, she made the decision to address the concern rather than complain about it. Jacquese firmly believes that representation matters. For a child, it is transformative to open a book and see yourself represented in its pages. Through her writing, she hopes that by seeing themselves represented it reinforces for children of color that they are indeed worthy of the starring role and that their dreams and goals are attainable. Sassy Sisters vs The Sock Monster is her first book, and it was published under her own imprint, ChocolateBlue, LLC.

When she is not writing, Jacquese spends most of her time loving on her husband and their two amazing daughters, growing her real estate business, reading, cooking, and traveling.

Jacquese is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. She received an MBA in Finance from the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.

She is member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Greater Nashville Realtors, National Association of Realtors, a board member of Book'em (a local literacy non-profit) and a volunteer reader with Reading is Fundamental (RIF).

Praise & Reviews

I loved this book! It's fun and also funny, and it was great to see how the sisters worked together against the sneaky sock monster.

Illustrations are so pretty that it made the story more lively. Plot of the story is interesting and unique. Author has very well created a story based on an event that occurs in our day to day life . It's a unique read and I must say it's my best read of this year. I am quite impressed with this adorable story.

The great thing about this story is that the sisters band together, they can count on each other to help no matter what the situation. They are brave and show how to work through a problem through communication and even a little sacrifice. The story is sweet and is a fun read for any family.

This is just the beginning for author Jacquese Groves, with these delightful girls I know there will be more to come.

This has become my son’s new favorite book. The sock monster tickles him in delight as we must read this book at least 5 times before bed each night. Unfortunately, our sock monster hasn’t appeared in our home as we continue to search for missing socks.
